Private Practice – a spinoff baby that was born from Greys Anatomy – is definitely one of my favorites. Much like Greys, the storylines and characters are complex and there is always exciting medical mysteries being presented and solved. Addison Montgomery, the main character of the show, works in a multi-dimensional medical clinic in the heart of the Santa Monica/Malibu area. Each doctor has a different specialty so it is always very interesting the wide array of cases they deal with.
This past week was the heart-wrenching story of a young girl dying of  a heart condition and the difficult decision that her parents and the doctors had to make concerning whether to keep her bed-ridden and connected to medication, or released from the hospital with a certainty that she will die in the next couple months. This created an ethical problem: leave her in the hospital for the rest of her life with the possibility that she may live longer, or stop the medication and let her live a practically normal life with a inevitable death fast approaching. This definitely made me think about what I would do in this situation and what the right thing to do is.
Also, Violet is continuing to battle an unwanted pregnancy as she struggles to figure out who is the father. Both men want to know and demand a paternity test in the episode, but she refuses. Considering that she is a psychologist and deals with difficult emotional situations on a daily basis, this is really baffling to me that she doesn’t have the maturity to process what is happening to her and the effect it is having on other people. I’m looking forward to what is coming next with her character…
So, if you’ve enjoyed Grey’s Anatomy, I really think you would like Private Practice!
