The Telly

A Review of Today’s Hottest Television Shows

Desperate Times February 17, 2009

This week’s Desperate Housewives definitely did not disappoint with its moral dilemmas and references to economic woes. Wisteria Lane was definitely as dramatic as ever with its suspicious characters (Dave!) and good ol’ catfights (Susan vs. Katherine).

ABC definitely wanted to relate to the audience, so this episode really focused on financial troubles, a concept definitely not new to their American viewers. Lynette and Tom are close to losing their restaurant, Susan has to get a teaching job so they can afford for MJ to go to a good school, and Gabrielle is faced with the reality of not getting a hefty bonus check.

I have one word that will send chills down your back: Dave. Who is this guy?! He obviously has major problems, but what is his obsession with Mike and now Katherine is downright scary! I am truly puzzled about what this mysterious camping trip is all about. I guess we’ll have to wait until next week so see what it’s all about…

Here’s a complete recap of the episode if you happened to miss it

Mix, then stir February 16, 2009

This past week, two of my favorite shows Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice teamed up to present a 2-hour episode that incorporated characters from both shows intertwining. It was a fantastic representation of both shows and it was brilliantly written and presented.

So here’s a little background:
-Dr. Addison Montgomery used to be married to Dr. Derek Shepherd and they both worked at Seattle Grace (Grey’s Anatomy)
-After their divorce, Addison moved to LA to be closer to her best friends, also doctors, and therefore Private Practice was born!
-Derek is now dating Dr. Meredith Grey and is extremely close to proposing to her.

So, in this episode Addison’s brother Archer is severely ill with parasites in his brain and is taken to Seattle Grace so that Derrick can operate since he is one of the best neuro-surgeons in the country. Let the awkwardness begin!

Putting all former marriages and past friendships aside, Addison, Derek, Meredith, and their other friends (all doctors) try to find a cure for Archer and fight to save his life. This episode was one of laughs, old jokes, realizations, and good times.

I found it very inspiring to see Addison come back to Seattle Grace confidently, and face the fact that Derek has moved on and is about to propose with his mother’s ring (one that was never given to Addison because his mother hated her). The message of togetherness and support exuded from the screen.

The situation was handled maturely, and props to Meredith for not letting her boyfriend’s ex-wife get to her! It was great to see the gang from Private Practice back at Seattle Grace and having a good time, whether in the operating room or at Joe’s Bar across the street.

Surprise, surprise…the episode ended with Archer being healed and the smiles and happy tears that accompany any miracle.

Final 5 February 4, 2009

This week’s The Bachelor sure didn’t disappoint and is getting more intense every minute.

Here’s a quick re-cap in case you missed it (which you should seriously go to abc.com and watch if you haven’t): The final five girls were all flown to Seattle (Jason’s hometown) and were given two one-on-one dates and then one group date. Melissa got the first individual date and was told to get dressed up for a night on the town. Well, Jason’s son, Ty, didn’t want him to leave so Melissa came over to his house instead for a quiet night. Then, the group date included Stephanie, Molly, and Jillian for a ferry boat ride, trip to a radio station, and then dinner. Finally, Naomi got the final individual date which included rock climbing and fondu. In the end, Stephanie was sent back home to her precious daughter and without the chance at a happy ending with Jason.

This episode displayed a sense of excitement not only because it took place in a new location, but also because things are starting to get really serious with the final five girls. Anyone watching can tell that there are definitely legitimate feelings and passion between Jason and some of the girls. In my opinion, Naomi and Jason do not have the same kind of relationship that the other girls do and I don’t sense the necessary chemistry for her to go on. But between Jillian, Molly, and Melissa it’s a really hard choice. I think they are all amazing girls and all have their own individual qualities that they could offer to Jason. So, we’ll have to wait and see…hometown dates are next!! Ready for the family drama? 🙂

I can’t end this post without a moment of tribute to Stephanie. What an amazing woman! She handled the entire situation with grace and poise and Jason had nothing but good things to say about her and even got chocked up when saying goodbye to her. She was probably one of the most passionate, caring women I have ever seen (and that’s a lot since it was through the TV!). So, Congratulations Stephanie for leaving a great impression on America and I wish you all the best in the future!

Until next weeks round of shows,
Kaley

The Best Commercial Day of the Year February 2, 2009

Commercials…almost as important as the TV shows themselves. Without them, bye bye to all your favorite shows.

While normally I can’t stand sitting through commercials and I am willing to give up watching a show live so I can fast forward it later on the DVR, Superbowl Sunday is definitely an exception to the rule. The way I look at it, the Superbowl is a day of commercials with some football in between 🙂

I found this awesome link which has actually created a bracket for the commercials so you can rate the different ones and then choose a winner. I like this because it not allows you to vote, but you can watch all of them too!
